  1. A fraction in mathematics, is a number that 
  2. indicates one or more equal parts of a whole. 
  3. Usually, the number of equal parts into which 
  4. the unit is divided (denominator) is written 
  5. below a horizontal line, and the number of 
  6. parts comprising the fraction (numerator) is 
  7. written above, thus 2/3 or 3/4.
